About PILOCAR 2% EYE DROPS

Composition & Class

Active Ingredient: Pilocarpine 2% w/v (pilocarpine nitrate) ” a cholinergic (muscarinic) miotic agent
Form: Sterile, clear ophthalmic solution in a 5mL dropper vial

Indications & Mechanism

Used for:
- Lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and acute angle-closure glaucoma, and as a miotic during/after laser procedures
Mechanism: Stimulates M3 muscarinic receptors † contracts ciliary & sphincter muscles † opens trabecular meshwork † increases aqueous outflow † reduces IOP

Dosage & Administration

Typical dosing: 1 drop, 2“4 times daily, as prescribed
Technique:
1. Wash hands, pull down lower eyelid
2. Instill 1 drop
3. Apply nasolacrimal occlusion (press tear duct for 1minute to reduce systemic absorption)

Contraindications & Precautions

Avoid in: Hypersensitivity to pilocarpine, retinal disease, cataracts, anterior uveitis, secondary glaucoma
